Week 18: Buckle Down with Your Eye on the Prize!

4.  Continuous concentration means an even, unbroken flow of thought and is the result of patient, persistent, persevering and well-regulated system.  — Part Seventeen, Charles Haanel’s The Master Key System

Throw Down the Guantlet…

Drawing a line in the sand. An old metaphor. My dad told me a story once about being on the high school tennis team.  He was low man on the totem pole.  In short, he sucked at tennis.  When the season finished, summer, fall, and winter stood between him and his next tennis match.  Dad told his coach he was going to be the #1 tennis player for next season.  Not really sure if he shared his plans with the top player, but I like to imagine that’s exactly what he did.  I mean, sometimes you really have to throw down the gauntlet when it comes to drawing a line in the sand and making a decision to change your life.

Now, GO TO WORK!!!!

As is true of most radical changes in a person’s life, little credibility or concern was given to his announcement.  Unbeknownst to the rest of the team, he buckled down with his eye on the prize.  He walked to the closest tennis court at the local park every day, all summer long, and played and practiced.  It didn’t matter the temperature.  He was there.

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is…

tennisAnd then, the season started…Do you really NEED to ask what happened at tryouts that next tennis season?  I mean, is there any doubt Coach put him in the #1 spot, and the #1 guy got moved down to #2?  He made a statement, did the work, and was prepared to put his money where his mouth said he would be.  His persistent focus and concentrated action was “the result of patient, persistent, persevering, and well-regulated system.”

Succeed with Persistent Focus and Concentrated Action!

I’ve always loved this story, as it demonstrated to me…

You can achieve anything when you put your mind to it!

I wish he was here to chat with me ever since I joined the Master Key Mastermind Alliance.  I’ve learned SOOOO much about how to build my focus and to concentrate my actions towards any and all goals in my life.  The results have been phenomenal, and I am ever grateful for the example he set.  I strive to be a similar example, and I believe everyone who wants something out of life can achieve it if they just put their mind to it!
